La Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) — Organisation pour la Protection et la Préservation de l’Environnement Naturel en Albanie — est la première organisation environnementale non gouvernementale du pays, fondée le 5 juin 1991. Depuis plus de trente ans, PPNEA œuvre pour la conservation de la nature et de la biodiversité, en contribuant à la protection des espèces menacées, des habitats naturels et des zones à forte valeur écologique à travers l’Albanie.

La mission de l’organisation est de promouvoir la préservation et la gestion durable des ressources naturelles grâce à la recherche scientifique, au suivi de la biodiversité, à l’éducation environnementale, à la sensibilisation du public et au plaidoyer pour des politiques de protection plus solides. Au fil des années, PPNEA a joué un rôle essentiel dans le renforcement de la société civile environnementale, en organisant des campagnes de sensibilisation, des sessions de formation et des activités visant à accroître la participation du public aux enjeux de conservation de la nature.

L’organisation a apporté une contribution majeure à la création et à la promotion des aires protégées en Albanie, en soutenant les processus ayant conduit à la désignation du Parc National de Prespa, du Parc National Shebenik–Jabllanicë, du Parc Naturel Korab–Koritnik et du Parc Naturel de Munella. PPNEA a également participé à l’identification, la promotion et la protection de corridors écologiques d’importance nationale, tels que Cukal–Munellë–Balgjaj–Martanesh, Drini i Zi (Drin Noir), Polis–Valamarë–Rungajë–Moravë–Gramoz et Tomorr–Vjosa. Grâce à ces actions, l’organisation soutient la connectivité écologique entre les habitats naturels et la libre circulation de la faune sauvage.

L’une de ses initiatives les plus reconnues est le Programme de Récupération du Lynx des Balkans, actif depuis 2006, qui œuvre à la protection de l’un des mammifères les plus menacés d’Europe. Ce programme est devenu une référence régionale en matière de suivi et de conservation de la faune.

Aujourd’hui, PPNEA mène des activités dans la majorité des aires protégées d’Albanie ainsi que dans les régions transfrontalières avec le Kosovo, la Macédoine du Nord et la Grèce. L’organisation s’engage dans la protection des espèces en danger, la préservation des habitats forestiers, humides et côtiers, l’étude de la faune et des écosystèmes naturels, ainsi que dans l’éducation et la sensibilisation du public à l’importance de la conservation de la nature. À travers ses projets, PPNEA vise à contribuer à la préservation à long terme de la biodiversité et à la promotion d’un développement durable en Albanie.

Qendra për Ruajtjen dhe Mbrojtjen e Mjedisit Natyror në Shqipëri (PPNEA) është organizata e

parë mjedisore joqeveritare në Shqipëri, e themeluar më 5 qershor 1991. Për më shumë se tre

dekada, PPNEA ka punuar për ruajtjen e natyrës dhe biodiversitetit, duke kontribuar në

mbrojtjen e llojeve të rrezikuara, habitateve natyrore dhe zonave me vlera të larta ekologjike në

të gjithë vendin.

Misioni i organizatës është të promovojë ruajtjen dhe menaxhimin e qëndrueshëm të burimeve

natyrore përmes kërkimit shkencor, monitorimit të biodiversitetit, edukimit mjedisor,

ndërgjegjësimit publik dhe advokimit për politika më të forta në mbrojtje të mjedisit. Gjatë

viteve, PPNEA ka luajtur një rol të rëndësishëm në forcimin e shoqërisë civile mjedisore,

organizimin e fushatave ndërgjegjësuese, trajnimeve dhe aktiviteteve që synojnë rritjen e

pjesëmarrjes së publikut në çështjet e ruajtjes së natyrës.

Organizata ka dhënë një kontribut të rëndësishëm në krijimin dhe promovimin e zonave të

mbrojtura në Shqipëri, duke mbështetur procese që çuan në shpalljen e Parkut Kombëtar të

Prespës, Parkut Kombëtar Shebenik-Jabllanicë, Parkut Natyror Korab-Koritnik dhe Parkut

Natyror të Munellës. Gjithashtu, PPNEA ka kontribuar në identifikimin, promovimin dhe

mbrojtjen e korridoreve ekologjike me rëndësi kombëtare, si Cukal–Munellë–Balgjaj–

Martanesh, Drini i Zi, Polis–Valamarë–Rungajë–Moravë–Gramoz dhe Tomorr–Vjosë, duke

nxitur ruajtjen e lidhshmërisë ekologjike ndërmjet habitateve natyrore dhe lëvizjen e lirë të

faunës së egër. Një nga iniciativat më të njohura të saj është Programi i Rimëkëmbjes së

Rrëqebullit të Ballkanit, i cili prej vitit 2006 punon për mbrojtjen e një prej gjitarëve më të

rrezikuar në Evropë dhe është shndërruar në një model referimi për monitorimin dhe ruajtjen e

jetës së egër në rajon.

Sot, PPNEA zhvillon aktivitete në shumicën e zonave të mbrojtura të Shqipërisë dhe në rajonet

ndërkufitare me Kosovën, Maqedoninë e Veriut dhe Greqinë. Organizata angazhohet në ruajtjen

e llojeve të rrezikuara, mbrojtjen e habitateve pyjore, ligatinore dhe bregdetare, studimin e jetës

së egër dhe habitateve natyrore, si dhe në edukimin dhe ndërgjegjësimin e publikut për rëndësinë

e mbrojtjes së natyrës. Përmes projekteve të saj, PPNEA synon të kontribuojë në ruajtjen

afatgjatë të biodiversitetit dhe promovimin e zhvillimit të qëndrueshëm në Shqipëri.

The Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) is the first

environmental non-governmental organization in Albania, established on June 5, 1991. For more

than three decades, PPNEA has been working to conserve nature and biodiversity, contributing

to the protection of endangered species, natural habitats, and areas of high ecological value

throughout the country. The organization’s mission is to promote the conservation and

sustainable management of natural resources through scientific research, biodiversity

monitoring, environmental education, public awareness, and advocacy for stronger

environmental protection policies. Over the years, PPNEA has played an important role in

strengthening environmental civil society, organizing awareness campaigns, training sessions,

and activities aimed at increasing public participation in nature conservation issues.

The organization has made significant contributions to the establishment and promotion of

protected areas in Albania, supporting processes that led to the designation of Prespa National

Park, Shebenik-Jabllanicë National Park, Korab-Koritnik Nature Park and the Munella Nature

Park. In addition, PPNEA has contributed to the identification, promotion, and protection of

nationally important ecological corridors, including Cukal–Munella–Balgjaj–Martanesh, Drini i

Zi (Black Drin), Polis–Valamarë–Rungajë–Moravë–Gramoz, and Tomorr–Vjosa. Through these

efforts, PPNEA has supported the conservation of ecological connectivity between natural

habitats and the free movement of wildlife across the landscape. One of its most recognized

initiatives is the Balkan Lynx Recovery Programme, which has been working since 2006 to

protect one of Europe’s most endangered mammals and has become a regional reference model

for wildlife monitoring and conservation.

Today, PPNEA carries out activities across most protected areas in Albania and in transboundary

regions with Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Greece. The organization is engaged in the

conservation of endangered species, the protection of forest, wetland, and coastal habitats, the

study of wildlife and natural habitats, as well as public education and awareness on the

importance of nature conservation. Through its projects, PPNEA aims to contribute to the long-

term preservation of biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable development in Albania.
